Examination & Hearings 
An independent Planning Inspector, Mr Simon Berkeley BA MA
MRTPI, was appointed by the Secretary of State to hold a Public
Examination into the soundness of the Land Allocations Development
Plan Document (DPD). The hearings commenced 23 October 2012
but were suspended on the 19 November 2012 at SLDC's request whilst
they undertook further work. The examination hearings
will reconvene on Tuesday 11 June 2013.
All contact with the Planning Inspector must be made
through the Programme Officer.
North West Regional Strategy Abolition – Comments sought
on implications for Land Allocations
An Order to revoke the North West Regional Strategy in its
entirety was laid on 24 April 2013. http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2013/934/contents/made.
All directions under paragraph 1(3) of Schedule 8 to the Planning
and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 preserving policies contained in
structure plans in the area to which the North West Regional
Strategy relates have also been revoked. The Order will come
into force on 20 May 2013. Once the Order comes into force,
the statutory development plan for a local planning authority in
the former North West of England government region, including South
Lakeland, will consist of the local plans, and where they
exist, adopted neighbourhood plans.
