Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs)
Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs) will
form part of the emerging Local Development Framework (LDF) and
will sit alongside Development Plan Documents such as the Core
Strategy to provide additional, more specific detail and guidance
on particular issues to help developers put together appropriate
development proposals and to help judge planning applications for
such proposals.
The first SPD covering South Lakeland has been
produced jointly between South Lakeland District Council, Cumbria
County Council, the Lake District National Park Authority and other
district and borough councils in the County. This is the Cumbria
Wind Energy SPD and it focuses on the capacity of Cumbria’s
landscapes to accommodate wind energy development. All
participating authorities have adopted the document.
SPDs on other topics may be produced at a
later stage of LDF preparation.
