Statement of Community Involvement
The new Planning Act places an emphasis on community engagement
throughout the plan making process. Before starting work on
an LDF, each planning authority is required to prepare a Statement
of Community Involvement, to set out how it intends to consult the
community and relevant interests at each stage in the process and
also in deciding planning applications. The SCI relates to
South Lakeland outside the National Parks.
The SCI was subject to an independent
examination by a Government appointed Inspector. The Inspector's
Report was received on 31 July 2006, and indicates that the SCI is
sound subject to a number of changes. The Inspector's
recommendations are binding on the Council and have now been
incorporated in the adopted SCI.
SCI Addendum - December
2008
An addendum to the SCI was approved by
delegated executive decision on 27th November 2008. It explains how
the Council's commitments to community engagement will be applied
to the revised stages in LDF consultation. The revised stages were
introduced by the Town and Country Planning (Local Development)
(England) (Amendment) Regulations 2008, which came into effect on
27th June 2008. The SCI Addendum can be viewed and downloaded via
