Area Action Plans (DPD)
These are part of the Development Plan and are more detailed,
covering smaller specific parts of the District where there is
likely to be significant change, or conservation is needed. The
Kendal Canal Head is the only such document proposed at the
moment.
South Lakeland District Council is preparing a Kendal Canal Head
Area Action Plan (AAP), which will form part of the South Lakeland
Local Development Framework (LDF). The AAP will provide a planning
framework for the regeneration of an area of Kendal between
Canal Head and Change Bridge off Parkside Road, including the
potential restoration of a section of the former Lancaster Canal.
The AAP has developed from earlier work between the District
Council, the North West Development Agency and the Lancaster Canal
Restoration Partnership – including British Waterways, which has
assisted with this consultation.

A revised Preferred Options document has been
prepared by consultants Ove Arup. This is being considered by
Cabinet on October 13th. It may be subject to minor changes and
edits but is likely to form the basis of Preferred Options
consultation later this year.
