Get your Free Home Energy Survey now

25 October 2011

From Monday 24 October, South Lakeland District Council is offering a free energy survey to all households in the area to help householders understand how energy efficient their home is.

SLDC is working with the Cumbria Affordable Warmth Partnership, the Lake District National Park Authority, EON and Cosyseal Insulation Limited and is encouraging all residents in South Lakeland to find out how they can save money and take their first steps to a warmer home.

To book a free survey, householders should telephone the SLDC Customer Contact Centre on 0845 050 4434 and leave their contact details.  Cosyseal Insulation Limited will then contact the householder to arrange for one of their trained energy surveyors to call at the property to complete a whole house energy survey.

A report will then be provided to give the householder clear and helpful advice about the energy needs of their home as well as details about their eligibility for discounted or free insulation offers.  The scheme is open to all South Lakeland residents that are homeowners or those who live in privately rented homes.

Councillor Clare Feeney-Johnson, portfolio holder for Environment and Sustainability, said, “Understanding the energy needs of your home is very important if you wish to save money on fuel bills.  I would encourage every resident in South Lakeland to take advantage of this free energy survey and find out how they can make their home warmer, save money and make their home more energy efficient.”

Householders should be aware that all representatives from Cosyseal will be carrying clear identification to show who they are when they arrive for the pre-arranged appointment.

Angela Jones, Trading Standards Service Manager, commented:  "We regularly get queries from householders who have been cold called by businesses claiming to be working on behalf of the local council offering cavity wall or loft insulation. It can be difficult to know who to trust and therefore we welcome this initiative, which will give residents in South Lakeland confidence that they are dealing with a reputable business and help protect them from rogue traders.”
