Clean Streets hit the road
8 August 2012
The Clean Streets Roadshow will soon be
hitting the road and touring the district so members of the public
can have their say on a number of issues including Dog Control
Orders (DCO’s). The council wants to know the publics
view on DCO’s, which would give SLDC further powers to deal with
the most common problems associated with dogs. South Lakeland
District Council launched the Clean Streets public consultation
last month and has already had a fantastic response from the public
with over 600 questionnaires completed so far.
The SLDC Enforcement Team will be available at
the Clean Streets Roadshow so people can chat to them, ask
questions, find out more about the proposals and complete a
questionnaire. The Roadshows are taking place as follows:

As part of the consultation, the council is
seeking public opinion on a byelaw to give Police the relevant
power to take action in response to public urination and defecation
in the street.
The Clean Streets questionnaire is available
online paper copies can be obtained from the council
offices at Kendal, Ulverston, Windermere and libraries across the
district. Frequently asked questions and maps showing all the
areas where DCO’s are being considered are also on the website and
at all the places mentioned above.
At the Roadshows, the public will also have chance to find out
more about the council’s community gas and electricity purchasing
scheme called Power up Your Community. This exciting
initiative is a massive opportunity for local residents to be part
of a scheme that will help to reduce their energy costs. SLDC
staff will be on hand to discuss the benefits of the scheme and
handing out information about how people can sign up for
free. More information is available on the council’s
website or by calling 0845 050 4434.
CouncillorClare
Feeney-Johnson, portfolio holder for Environment and
Sustainability, said: “I want everyone to visit the
Roadshows, complete a questionnaire and let the council know their
views and opinions on Dog Control Orders and the other issues we
are currently consulting on. We are considering introducing
DCO’s throughout the district as complaints by the public show
cleaner streets are a priority for all South Lakeland
residents.
“People should also take the opportunity to find out more about
the community energy purchasing scheme to help them save money on
their energy bills. Our community buying energy in bulk will
help find the cheapest energy tariffs on the market.”
