Monster Clean up at Bowness
27 October 2011
On Friday 28 October between 10am and 11.30,
local residents from Helm Close at Bowness on Windermere will be
rolling up their sleeves to clean their estate, with support from
South Lakeland District Council (SLDC) and South Lakes Housing
(SLH).
Residents and children armed with litter
pickers and bags will be joined by staff from SLDC and SLH to help
tidy the estate. A skip will also be provided so local
residents can get rid of any unwanted furniture or large household
items.
In the spirit of Halloween the community
clean up will include prizes for children who turn up in fancy
dress. There will also be face painting and Halloween themed
refreshments and snacks to keep the litter pickers going.
Councillor Clare Feeney-Johnson, portfolio holder for
Environment and Sustainability, said: “A community clean
up is a great way for everyone to come together, improve the area
where they live and feel a sense of pride about their estate.
I am sure the children will really enjoy being able to dress up for
Halloween and take part in such a worthwhile community event.
Everyone living at Helm Close will reap the benefits and I hope
they will be proud of their achievement.”
Councillor David Williams, ward member for Windermere
Bowness South, added: “This is a great event for everyone
to get involved in and shows how the local community are proud of
the area where they live. I am looking forward to seeing the
results.”
Peter Thomas, Chief Executive of
South Lakes Housing, commented: “We are really looking
forward to taking part in this special community event with a
Halloween twist. Well done to everyone taking part in a real
community project between residents, SLDC and South Lakes
Housing.”
