Olympic Torch Relay letters sent to residents
8 June 2012
South Lakeland District Council is sending
letters to residents most affected by the Olympic Torch Relay on
the 21 and 22 June 2012.
The letters contain details of road closures
and affected routes for when the Torch arrives in Grasmere on the
21st until it leaves the area via Milnthorpe on the
22nd. SLDC says it is corresponding with residents so
they are aware of any possible disruption and can prepare in
advance.
SLDC Leader Cllr Peter
Thornton, said: “The Torch’s visit is a massive
opportunity for South Lakeland in highlighting what the area has to
offer. It has taken months of planning to make sure disruption is
kept to a minimum but obviously some disruption will be
unavoidable. We are writing to the residents most affected by the
Torch Relay so they are fully informed of what is happening and can
prepare in advance.
“We want to stress that the closures are done
on a rolling basis and will open as soon as the Torch has passed by
and it is considered safe to do so. I am sure South Lakeland
residents will cope with the brief disruptions as they will witness
what is possibly a once in a lifetime opportunity to be a part of
the historic Torch visit.”
All details of the Torch’s route, planned
events and car parking are available on our website.
