Spread the cost of paying Council Tax

19 February 2013

From 1 April 2013, South Lakeland District Council is introducing a more flexible payment system so that residents are able to pay their Council Tax over 12 monthly instalments instead of the normal ten months.

The change is being introduced to allow people more flexibility to pay their Council Tax as the cost will be spread over 12 months thereby reducing the monthly budget for many households.

Anyone interested in changing their monthly instalments to 12 months should contact SLDC as soon as possible so the relevant changes can be made to their account.  Residents can either email enquiries12@southlakeland.gov.uk or call the Contact Centre on 0845 050 4434.  They will need their name and address including postcode and account number shown on their latest Council Tax bill.

Cllr David Evans, portfolio holder for Policy, Performance and Resources, said: “The council is aware that many households are having to budget with the cost of living increasing all the time.  We can help take some of the pressure off the monthly household budget by spreading the cost of Council Tax over 12 months.  We are also proposing at Full Council later this month not to increase Council Tax for the third year running, as we do appreciate that anything we can do in the current economic climate will be helpful for people.”
