Berners Close Development Change

Russell Armer Limited, one part of the Berners Vision Partnership  which won the competition to develop the Berners site in Berners Close, Grange-over-Sands, has withdrawn from the planned development.

In a statement the company's Managing Director, Martyn Nicholson, said: "It is with regret that we have withdrawn from the scheme to redevelop Berners Close. The availability of bank development finance is extremely restricted in the current financial climate. A scheme of this complexity, which includes a large element of upfront public domain works and infrastructure, is not presently viable in the proposed format."

South Lakeland Council Deputy Leader Hilary Stephenson said: "We are disappointed that Russell Armer has had to pull out of the development but understand their reasons for doing so. The next step for the proposed development will be decided by council members at a cabinet meeting on the 25 January 2012."

Russell Armer's role was the development of the residential element of the scheme.
