A quick step to be strictly energy efficient

2 November 2011

South Lakeland District Council is once again asking people to put on their dancing shoes and come along to a free Tea Dance.  At the same time, they will be able get information and advice about how to keep warm and save money on heating bills this winter.

The free Tea Dance will be held in the Coronation Hall at Ulverston on Thursday 10 November from 1.30pm – 4.30pm.  The Deputy Leader of SLDC and portfolio holder for Communities and Wellbeing, Councillor Hilary Stephenson, will be opening the event and will kick starting the dancing at 2pm.

Information will be available from a wide range of organisations about grants and other energy saving measures and there will also be a free prize draw.  Complimentary tea and biscuits will be served plus information packs, low energy light bulbs and mugs will be given away along with useful energy saving tips and advice.  On the day there will be stalls from Age UK, Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service, NHS Cumbria and the Cumbria Warm Homes Project.

Ballroom and Sequence dancing will take place from 2pm – 4pm with Ian Midgley organising the dancing and providing the musical accompaniment on the organ.  Everyone is welcome to come along and join in with the dancing or to just sit back, enjoy the music and pick up some useful energy saving information at the same time.

Councillor Hilary Stephenson, Deputy Leader and portfolio holder for Communities and Wellbeing, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for people to come along, on their own or with friends, meet different people and talk to representatives from all the different organisations about how to keep warm and well this winter. The council has been working hard over the last few years to encourage the installation of insulation and other energy efficiency measures and we are now launching the new Cumbria Warm Homes Project.  This is a joint initiative across all the Cumbrian local authorities and Quick Steps to Energy Efficiency is about everyone taking small steps to reduce energy bills and a big step to reducing their carbon footprint.”

The event has been organised by SLDC and the Healthy Homes Action Group, which is made up of a number of agencies from across the South Lakes.  Further information can be obtained by contacting Alison Sandford on 01539 797525 or via email at a.sandford@southlakeland.gov.uk
