We have attempted to provide information on a number of issues and areas relating to education which you may find useful
 

Resources for Parents

DirectGov provides a breakdown of useful information regarding Your child's education according to age and/or ability. 
 
The Parent Centre website (developed by the Department for Education and Skills) also gives detailed information for parents, including advice on choosing a school, and school admissions. 
 
Parents Online is a website designed by parents, for parents, and provides advice and guidance on choosing a school , and details on how to apply to your choice of school.

Special Educational Needs or Disabilities

There is information for parents and pupils with SEN or disabilities, including the assessment process, choosing a school and transport available from DirectGov. 
Cumbria County Council also provides advice on special needs within Cumbria.

Looked After Children

Cumbria County Council provides a range of services and support for the children they look after.  For more information see the following page on their website: Education of 'Looked After' children.
The Who Cares Trust also provides information for the children involved.

National Curriculum

The North West Learning Grid is a regional body providing a gateway to educational resources through the Internet. The National Curriculum for England provides information on every subject in the curriculum, detailing;
  • the programmes of study and non-statutory guidelines
  • attainment targets
  • notes and links to online teaching resources.

Admissions & Appeals

The Co-ordinated Admissions Arrangements requires parents to complete a single admissions application form indicating 1st, 2nd and 3rd preference secondary schools.  
 
Cumbria School Admissions provide information, as do the Advisory Centre for Education. You can apply for a Primary School online, as well as a Secondary School Transfer, however you are advised to view supporting information on the County Councils website before completing the online process.   
 
You can find information relating to school appeals from the School Appeals website, and information can also be obtained from the BBC - Guidance on How to Appeal.
 

School Reports & Performance Tables

Reports produced by the Government's school inspectors for every school in the country are available from Ofsted - view school reports
 
DfES Department for Education & Skills reports School and College Achievement & Attainment tables, formerly known as School Performance Tables.
 
The BBC News site maintains a list of primary and secondary school league tables, including performance details and further information about the school selected.
 

Home Schooling

Education Welfare

The Education Welfare Section of Cumbria County Council gives advice on a number of matters such as, School Attendance, Exclusion, Discipline, Dealing with Teenage Pregnancy and Parental Responsibility.
 

Revision

BBC Schools Revision Guide provides revision help for Key Stage 2, 3, and 4, and Schoolwork Ugh!  Provides advice for students on schoolwork subjects and other topics such as student loans.
Cumbria Libraries provide a wealth of information including research,online catalogs, and mobile libraries.
