Death and Bereavement.

The period following a bereavement can be a bewildering time. The links below should provide some assistance at this difficult time.

Further information about Death and Bereavement is available from the DirectGov website.

Death

If a death occurs in Hospital or elsewhere, whether it's an expected, or unexpected death then you need to know what to do first. In some cases a death will need to be reported to the Coroner.

Use this link to view information on how to Register a Death, and list Registrars Offices in South Lakeland.

Stillbirth

When a baby is already dead when it is born, this is known as a stillbirth. Reasons for a stillbirth are complex and not always understood. The following links should provide practical information to help you through this difficult time.

There are choices that you can make about your baby by yourselves that you should be aware of. There are also some decisions you have to make and some things that you are obliged to do. For example registering your baby's stillbirth.

Bereavement counsellors in the hospital will guide you about what to do next, and there are organisations who can provide support at this difficult time.
