General Advice

For advice and information for Carers of all ages visit Cumbria Social Services, and provide Community Services for Older People and People with Disabilities.
 
The Princess Royal Trust Cumbria Carers provides information for Carers in South Lakeland.
 
DirectGov provides lots of information for those involved in looking after someone with a disability. You will also find advice on carers' assessments, support services and money matters as well as;

Benefits

At this stage in your life you may well need financial help, and there are benefits available. 
 
Carers Allowance is for people aged between 16 and 65, who spend 35 hours a week or more caring for someone who is severely disabled.
 
The allowance is dependent on income, and may affect other benefits that you are claiming. For more information visit the Department for Work and Pensions Website
 
Also of use, is Home Responsiblities Protection. (HRP) helps protect your basic Retirement Pension, if you are unable to work or you are on a low wage and you have caring responsibilities at home, you may well qualify.
