Adoption and Fostering.

Cumbria County Council Adoption & Fostering Services provide information on services in the South Lakeland and Cumbria region. They also provide a number of useful factsheets. 
 
Directgov provides advice on Adoption and Fostering including Intercountry Adoption.
 
British Association for Adoption and Fostering provides all manner of guidance relating to Adoption and Fostering including legislation and financial information.
 
The Guardian explains some of the complex issues relating to Adoption & legislation. 
 
Fostering Information Line provides information for prospective foster parents, and the Fostering Network is a leading charity for everyone with either a personal or professional involvement in fostering. 
 
Adoption.com provides comprehensive information on all aspects of Adoption and Fostering
 

Looked After Children

Cumbria County Council also provide a number of leaflets for Looked After Children, including care and education services.
 

Legislation etc

Dept for Education and Skills DfES provide detailed information on a wide range of issues affecting adoption, including standards, adoption reforms and, very importantly, legislation.
 

Organisations

BBC Cumbria provides a listing of local Adoption and Fostering Agencies in Cumbria
  • Barnardo's is an organisation which has dealt with children for a number years.  It derives inspiration and values from the Christian values and beliefs upon which the Barnardo's homes were founded. Although they stopped running homes for children over 30 years ago, they offer a variety of services in Cumbria.
  • NCH formerly known as the National Childrens Homes provides information on Adoption, Foster Care, Residential Family Centres, and Special Schools.  It also provides care and advice for Young People, and is active in the areas of homelessness and youth justice. 
  • Catholic Caring Services is a charity working in the field of childcare since 1934.  It offers a variety of services to children and young people in adoption placements, and also provides a residential therapeutic children's home, and foster care.

Connexions Website is aimed at young people requiring advice on issues relating to either Adoption, or Fostering.

Adoption Registry Connect Is a website search facility which is designed to reunite adoptees with birth parents and siblings
 

Counselling & Support Agencies

Post Adoption Centre - Provides independent advice, counselling and support to anyone affected by, or dealing with the challenges and opportunities of adoption. 
 
After Adoption  is another organisation proving services aimed at anyone affected by adoption, whether they be adopted people, birth parents and relatives or adoptive families, it also provides helpline support.
