Kendal and Sizergh Castle
9.30am - Visit Kendal Town Centre
Kendal, home of the famous mint cake, has a
rich and varied history and offers great shopping, eating and
attractions for you to explore at your leisure.
11.00am - Visit Abbot Hall Art Gallery
and the adjacent Museum of Lakeland Life. Located in
Kirkland, the oldest part of Kendal, the Georgian elegance of Abbot
Hall provides an historic setting for an outstanding collection of
fine art. Lakeland watercolours hang alongside works by Romney,
Ruskin, Constable, Nicholson and Freud. Groups can enjoy high
quality temporary exhibitions throughout the year. The Museum of
Lakeland Life shows how our Cumbrian ancestors worked, lived and
entertained themselves over 200 years.

12.30pm - Time to break for lunch and sample
one of Kendal's many eating places.
1.30pm - Leave Kendal on the A6, join the A591
south, turning off on the A590 signposted Barrow. Follow signs off
A590 to Sizergh Castle. (3.5 miles south of Kendal).
2.00pm - Arrive at Sizergh
Castle.
Dating from the 14th century, Sizergh Castle, owned by the National
Trust, has a fine collection of Elizabethan carvings and panelling,
fine furniture, portraits and Inlaid Chamber.
The beautiful grounds, largely 18th century have a fine rock garden
which includes part of the National Collection of hardy ferns.
