Kendal Community Toilet Scheme
Kendal Futures and SLDC launched the Kendal Community Toilet
Scheme in March 2011. The scheme, which has been successfully
adopted in more than 20 other areas across England, has
improved access to toilets in the town for residents and visitors,
with the support of local businesses.
In Kendal, 10 local businesses have agreed to make their
toilet facilities available to residents and visitors, without the
need to make a purchase, during their normal opening hours. In
return, it is hoped that as a result of taking part in the scheme
the businesses will see an increase in their footfall and convert
the extra visitors into paying customers at their café, restaurant,
shop or attraction when they see what’s on offer.
For more details about the participating venues and their
locations download the PDF below.

Window stickers will highlight the participating businesses
across Kendal, and the range of facilities each offers, such as
baby changing or an accessible toilet.
The scheme will also be promoted to the public through leaflets
and information boards, with maps showing the location of the
toilets.
The Kendal Community Toilet Scheme is being run as a pilot and
will be evaluated shortly. Businesses who take part may receive a
small annual payment from the council as a contribution towards any
additional expenses.
