Ambleside
Ambleside enjoys a fantastic setting at the head of Lake
Windermere, surrounded by fells. From here gentle rambles
lead through the Rydal and Grasmere
valleys or there are rewarding
climbs to
spectacular views from Loughrigg and Wansfell. Ambleside also
lies at the gateway to the Langdale
Valley, home to possibly one of the most well-known and
well-walked mountain ranges in England.
Originating in Roman times, Ambleside now boasts an exciting
range of arts, crafts, jewellery and interior design shops,
Hayes Garden
World and there are excellent cinemas and plenty of
outdoor gear shops! Ambleside Market is held every
Wednesday.
Visit the Armitt
Museum and look out too for the famous Bridge House.
Ambleside offers easy assess to a whole range of watersports and
lake cruises and just a mile up the road is Rydal Mount, the much loved home
of William Wordsworth.
