Theatres
South Lakeland has a number of theatres/venues in the district
which promote a varied and interesting programme throughout the
year:
Coronation Hall
The
Coronation Hall
in County Square, Ulverston is one of the principal buildings in
the district, having the largest capacity of any hall in the
area. It is owned and operated by South Lakeland
District Council and was built during the First World War to
commemorate the coronation of King George V.
It was officially opened on 3rd June 1920. It offers
excellent entertainment including performances by highly acclaimed
touring companies in the fields of music, theatre, ballet and
opera.
The "Coro" as the building is affectionately called also
serves as a public hall for Ulverston and receives bookings for
various functions, including exhibitions, conferences, meetings,
corporate launches, weddings, lectures, training sessions, coffee
mornings, antique fairs etc. Recently included in the funding
from Spirit of Cumbria (for floodlighting) this completed the
improvements and refurbishment started by a National Lottery Grant
6 years ago.
