London 2012 Olympic Torch RelayOlympic Torch route announcement

The London 2012 Olympic Flame will be coming to South Lakeland as part of the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay and South Lakeland District Council is hosting a national Evening Celebration on Thursday 21 June, 2012 to officially welcome it to South Lakeland as part of its high profile journey around the UK. The Glebe in Bowness will host an event focused on South Lakeland’s young people and will involve local residents within the proceedings, as part of the historic countdown to the Games’ opening.

The first community to welcome the Torch Relay in South Lakeland on Thursday 21 June will be Grasmere, followed by Ambleside and Bowness-on-Windermere.  The Torch will stop overnight in Bowness for the Evening Celebration Event on The Glebe.  The following day Friday 22 June, the Torch Relay will set off in Kendal and make its way to Milnthorpe before making its way into Lancashire.  All communities are invited to welcome the Torch in South Lakeland.
