The rural area in which we live has radically changed in nature during the last decade due to the rapid increase in people buying homes, either main residences or second homes,in our locality. Cumbria has the highest poulation of elderly people in the UK many of whom have retired into and reside in the South Lakes area
The majority of homes are priced out of the reach of the indigenous population.
As a direct result local people have to move away to buy homes and find work.
There is a serious lack of affordable housing
Educational benefits are lost as youngsters move south to find work and affordable housing
Few meaningful jobs are on offer.
Our local GP,hospital and medical services are overstretched
The number of pupils in our schools has virtually trebled
Transport links are abysmal, leaving those without cars stranded in their own homes and encourages car usage which is not conducive to the DEFRA guidelines on carbon emissions

Due to the rise in population our:-
Electricity supply is unreliable
Drainage is not adequate
Roads are crumbling
Social services are unable to cope with the increased volume of (aged) vulnerable people.

Before SLDC and/orCCC ask us to absorb more people we would value your joint reassurance that the above issues are satisfactorily addressed prior to any increase in the population
