I would like to make the following observations regarding the LDF for South Lakeland outside the National Parks.

Regarding the area suggested for Housing in Ulverston at (1) on the map, particularly the site at the back of Westhills Drive, may I request that if the area is agreed for development, could you look seriously at the surrounding environment.

The whole of the estate from Meeting House Lane onwards to Westhills Drive, is either bungalows or one and a half story houses. The suggested land from the back of Westhills Drive to Birkrigg Common is low lying, then rises at Birkrigg Common.

Birkrigg Common is an important landscape and much valued by all the residents of Ulverston.

I would like to suggest at this stage in the consultation serious consideration is given to status of this land and what should be built on the Westhills Drive side of Mountbarrow Road. Any properties built should be low level bungalow type properties (bungalows or one and a half story houses) to keep the natural look of the area.

Regarding Employment Land at (3), my main concern with this area would be access off the A590. For a number of years the Highway Agency has objected to access in this area particularly on the Bee Hive side of the A590. The road at this point is fast and dangerous. The area has always formed a natural and important part of the Green Gap between Ulverston and Swarthmoor and I feel it should remain so.
