i am writing to you with regard to potential sites for affordable housing aoutside Burneside that i would like to put forward for inclusion in your strategy or future housing plans.

As landlords my father,James Cropper, and i are committed to the provision of high quality affordable housing for the rental to local occupants in the Burneside area. We would welcome an oppotunity to provide more housing of this type, which we understand may be considered in locations outside the core service centres that form the heart of your strategy.
Please use this space if you wish to set out a new option for consideration.
in particular, we would request that the SLDC gives consideration to the following,
1. fields at Bowston (3.45 - 2.14acres). The attraction of this site is that its adjacent to the exisiting community and would barely be visible form most directions, being sandwiched between Oxenholme- Windermere railway line, woodland and the Bowston-Burneside highway.
2. Bowston farm outbuildings (potential for 3-4 units). We are in the process of applying for conversion of holiday lets these though would prefer to convert for affordable housing for rental. consultation is in process for the former with Lilian Hopkins.
3. Field(s) at Gilthroten, Cowan Head ( approx 3acres + 2.87 acres). these are surrounded by development on 2 sides, with the third side of the triangle sheltered from view by the rising levels of woodland.
4. Old workshop site at Ellergreen (potential for 1-2 single storey units). this is adjacent to 14 units but dismissed by SLDC when consulted in the past as not being sustainable location.

I enclose a copy of a 1:25,000 showing these sites and more detailed maps showing sites 1,2 and 3.

It was excellent to speak to you a couple of weeks ago. I have the following comments on your proposals for the growth of Burneside which I would like to be noted as part of your consultation:
Do you support, oppose or have an observation about this part of the Report?

1. I am supportive of your proposal to develop the field opposite Burneside Hall for housing.
2. The allocation of this field to housing does, however, need to be discussed with James Cropper plc as we have always earmarked it previously for the expansion of the mill if this was required (subject to planning permission etc.)
3. You have examined other options for Burneside. In nearly all the cases, the Ellergreen Estate (which is held in trust for me) owns the relevant land. I would like to discuss the potential at these sites with you in more detail after 30 May, preferably on site. I believe that in some cases issues such as restricted access may be solvable, so there may yet be potential.
4. As landlords my father and I are committed to the provision of high quality affordable housing for rental to local occupants in the Burneside area. We would welcome an opportunity to provide more housing of this type, and propose the following sites:

- field at Bowston (circled in attached) - the attraction of this is that it is adjacent to the existing community and would barely be visible from most directions.
- Bowston farm outbuildings (we are in the process of applying for conversion to holiday let for these though would prefer to convert to affordable housing for rental)
- field at Gilthroten, Cowan Head
- old workshop site at Ellergreen (adjacent to 14 units but dismissed by SLDC when consulted in past as not being a 'sustainable' location)

I am preparing plans of these sites to send you.
