as oneof the leadership team i am writing on behalf of Croftland Community Church in Ulverston, on the advice of your department colleagues, to state thatin principal we support the proposals in the preffered Direction of growth options for the development of the land to the south od the Croftlands estate in Ulverston for housing purposes.
in addition to expressing out current support I am also writing to ask that consideration be given at this stage of the developement process to the allocation of a site for the provisions of a church building and appropriate parking in the Allocation Document which you will be producing.
Some background information might be useful in the explaining of out interest.
The original 1960s plans for the Croftlands Estate included and allocation of a site for a shurch building and adjacent car park. Unfortunately, the local churches in the town were unable to take advantage of the oppotunity for this development and a now well-used Community Hall was built on the site with the financial support of the SLDC, who now are building on the site.
Croftlands community Church was established on the estate 23 years ago and in the absence of a church building we have been using the Community Hall and Junior School for our Sunday and mid-week events - not always the most convenient arrangement and a flexible use church building would be an over due and desirable asset in the life of the community.
i should add that we are full involved in Churches Together in Ulverston and the indications are that a formal notice of support for our requests will be sent to you in September following out next meeting of the CTU commitee.
