The Core Strategy identifies the need for significant residential growth in the Milnthorpe functional area. This area is served by Dallam School. Following a large building programme, the governors of the school have no plans currently for the further expansion of the school. For the long term benefit of the Milnthorpe area, however, it would be wise to amend Policy C2 of the local plan with regard to the Milnthorpe-Ackenthwaite ‘green gap’. Dallam Charitable Trust owns the field at the back of the school as well as the school grounds and buildings. Trustees support the development of the field for residential use. The school is currently transferring its main activities to its Milnthorpe site and the field will be surplus to requirements. The school could provide additional access to any development through its grounds from the main road if required.
