Proposed developement in the area Helsington Laithes to Lumley Road and South of Scroggs Wood.

A number of reasons for objection spring to mind:
1. Having allowed developement and spoilt the aesthetic qualities of the North Eastern approach to Kendal, it now seems that the South Western approach is to receive the same treatment. Presumably it is now realised that it is cheaper to to encourage private developement to the south west side of the town than to provide the long awaited northern bypass to the existing Industrial Area.
2. The likely drastic reduction in existing property values in this area of the town.
3. Intollerable strain on existing infrastructure and schools, particularly Primary Schools, in the south area of Kendal together with a corresponding increase in town 'school' traffic.
4. It is apparently suggested that developement in this area is likely to be high density housing together with some commercial/business premises. One can only think that many of the new residents are likely to be employed in the industrial nort east of the town with a further inevitable increase in town centre traffic congestion.
What change(s) would you suggest for this part of the Report?
I would propose that the south western approach to the town be left largely as at present, an extremely attractive gateway to an ancient Lakeland town. Developement of the nature being proposed should be sited to the north east of the town coincident with the provision of appropriate infrastructure and new traffic links.

I would propose that the south western approach to the town be left largely as at present i.e. an extremely attractive gateway to an ancient lakeland town. Developement of the nature being proposed should be sited to the north and east of kendal, coincident with the provision of appropriate infrastructure and new traffic links.
