Buildings on land to the south of Lumley Road would be impossible to screen as the site rises fairly steeply away from the road. Development of any kind would dominate the approach to Kendal and affect the impression of the town when entering from the south. The LDF proposes mixed employment and housing - Why? it is wholly inappropriate to mix the two uses on grounds of safety, quality of life and aesthetics. There is already a serious problem with the sewage system in the area. Wattsfield estate suffers from the stench of sewage for much of the year and this problem needs to be addressed urgently. Traffic travelling into Kendal from the south queues back to Helsington Laithes at rush hour, how could the road cope with more traffic? People in new houses will have children to take to school and jobs to go to: they will not walk they will drive.
What change(s) would you suggest for this part of the Report?
Remove site 2c from consideration for further growth.

We need to attract more well paid jobs in the SDLC area if the whole plan is to work - 'affordable' housing is a nonsense if there are no jobs. The problem in Kendal is one of accessibility and space. It seems perverse to open up new areas for development which would require considerable investment in essential services which are not in place at any of the sites. One of the major considerations would be the removal of the sewage works from Wattsfield and the building of a modern, large capacity water treatment works if there is to be any major expansion at the south end of Kendal [or any of the other proposed options.]
Please use this space if you wish to set out a new option for consideration.
The north end of Kendal is already catering for industrial development. This works well except for the traffic travelling through the town. A northern bypass is needed so that the current industrial areas can be expanded. If the fundamental problem of traffic and services are not addressed then Kendal will become an ugly, industrial town rather than a desirable area in which to live and work as well as a tourist desination.
