Oppose
We oppose the proposal to build further housing to the North of Endmoor because we believe that the current infrastructure is already stretched to meet the existing population needs of the village. There is a very limited bus service to support those members of the community who are not fortunate enough to have their own transport and need basic facilities such as a pharmacy or general services provided by a Post Office ( as the local village Post Office is schedule for closure). This is especially important to the older members of the community.
The village does not have a local Pub but only a Working Men’s Club, which does not meet the village needs or contributes to providing a social centre or heart to which the local community can build on and reach out to older residents and help new families integrate into the village.
Building to the north of Endmoor will spoil the skyline to all parts of the village to the east, including the local school and appear to motorists on the A65 as unplanned urban sprawl. This will also weaken any unique identity between Endmoor, Gatebeck and Summerlands, risking at some point that they eventually become a singular large blot on the landscape with no soul or individual identity to foster a strong and healthy community sprit.
What change(s) would you suggest for this part of the Report?
Rather than plan for large developments look at ways in which small and one-off developments can utilise existing free space for small plots within the current village boundaries.
