2. West Kendal
2b Land off Maple Drive/Cedar Grove
As a resident of "new" housing in the Cedar Grove area I am horrified to learn of the possibility of more housing being built in the green fields beyond Cedar Grove and Maple Drive. Over the last few years the traffic using the Vicarage Drive/Stainabnk Road has increased significantly. Access at peak times from Vicarage Drive onto Milnthorpe Road is a meltdown point. More development of Kendal College, Nursery and School traffic, in addition to traffic cutting out the one way system by coming over Queens Road/Brigsteer Road access the South of the town has caused serious problems. To consider adding more traffic to this by developing these greenfields is just not practical. These fields are a green gap between the housing and the main bypass. Even if this development did go ahead the traffic noise from the bypass would make this an unpleasant environment in which to live. Even as far from the bypass as we are on Aldercroft you can occassionally hear the traffic noise. HAving access through Cedar Grove or Maple Drive is just not practical, these are small narrow cul de sacs and just could not cope. Originally I come from what was a small, semi rural village in West Yorkshire. In the 20 years since I have left every inch of green space, both within and on the edge of the village has been built upon. The result has been a concrete landscape filled with frustrated people who cannot move around their environment without queuing in traffic. Please please don't let the same thing happen to Kendal. I understand there is a need for affordable housing in Kendal, but there are many other sites in this plan that are more suitable and would have better access onto main roads etc. but whatever happens it must be affordable.
