Re: South Lakeland Local development Framework:
Preferred Options Report – Public Consultation.

On behalf of the members of Milnthorpe Parish Council I have been asked to write to you in response to the consultation, which they feel could have been earlier.

With regard to the proposed area at Ackenthwaite off Kirkgate Lane – the Members feel that this is an inappropriate position and it’s description too general and upsets the social balance of the area. There is no infrastructure currently in place, and the access roads from Ackenthwaite – to Woodhouse has no obvious access point, it would need full drainage and sewage on an already boggy area which is prone to flooding. It is to be noted that there is a public right of way through the field, and other developments have been refused due to the high landscape – the area can be seen from AONB and Farleton Knott. There would also be road problems on the A6 Main Street to Crooklands Bridge, which is already a pressured road.
There is no infrastructure in place for Schools, Doctors and local Heritage aspects etc.

With regard to the “Vitality” - suggestions of a supermarket on the Park Road side of the A6 – this is not needed as Milnthorpe shopping area is centred in and around The Square area. Houghton’s access point is via Grisley Mires Lane, and is a commercial area.

The Members would kindly ask you to refer to Milnthorpe as a Village in all future correspondence, although it is described as a Town.

The Members feel that it is very important to keep the “Green Gap” between Milnthorpe and Ackenthwaite.
