Council Tax - Valuation Bands

Most dwellings are subject to the council tax.  There is one bill per dwelling, whether it is a house, bungalow, flat, maisonette, mobile home or houseboat, and whether it is owned or rented.

Each dwelling is billed for Council Tax, whether it is a house, bungalow, flat, maisonette, mobile home or house boat, and whether it is owned or rented. Each property allocated to one of eight bands according to it's market value on 1st April 1991. Properties in band D will pay the basic charge and properties in other bands will be charged proportionately.

Your Council Tax is used to meet the net expenditure of Cumbria County Council, Cumbria Police Authority, South Lakeland District Council and your parish/town council.

The following table is based on the average parish charge of £23.73 in 2010/2011 (£23.39 in 2009/2010) but your bill may vary as all parishes are slightly different depending on the parish precept.
