Serpentine Woods, Kendal, LA9 4PE
Situated on Queens Road to the west of Kendal this area is a
very popular and well-used woodland.
Formerly called 'Dob Freer', which is a Cumbrian dialect
term for free land. It was originally owned by the crown, but
in 1790 it was developed into a park and in the 1850s paths were
laid and additional planting took place. The name Serpentine Woods
comes from the layout of paths as they wind in and out of the
woodland.
The woodland contains magnificent beech trees and a nature
trail. There are also magnificent views of the fells and across
Kendal.
