Ulverston Business Event a huge success

21 July 2010

A business event held in Ulverston has been hailed a great success after over 80 local business people attended on the day.  The marketing and networking event with two key speakers was held on Thursday 15 July, organised and hosted by South Lakeland District Council and Furness Enterprise (FE).

After a tour of the Ulverston Business Centre the event moved into the Coronation Hall where there was twelve exhibition stands from a variety of local companies such as Business Link, Ulverston Business Centre, Cumbria Chamber of Commerce, CART and Ulverston Community Partnership/Ulverston Business Alliance and some of the companies who had received a marketing grant from SLDC.

One of the key speakers of the evening was Geoff Ramm who is well known for his effective marketing insights and tips on how businesses can improve their marketing successes with next to no budget.  He delivered a mix of some of his favourite and brand new ideas plus observational techniques for retail businesses in Ulverston.

The second speaker, Val Robinson, talked about how Furness Enterprise are committed to helping local businesses grow successfully and the business support service they offer, which includes an SLDC marketing grant to help Ulverston and Low Furness businesses undertake new marketing activities.  Councillor Graham Vincent then chaired an Open Forum, which gave local business people a chance to ask questions about the topics covered.

Councillor Graham Vincent, portfolio holder for Economy and Enterprise, said, “The strong numbers attending this event has underlined the demand among small businesses who want to market their business successfully and have an opportunity to talk to other small businesses.”

Val Robinson from Furness Enterprise, commented, “This was an excellent event organised by SLDC and once again, Geoff Ramm entertained the audience whilst giving great tips on marketing techniques.  By implementing just one of the ideas he recommended, a business could potentially improve their sales in these difficult times.  I talked to many local businesses about the support they have received from FE in the past and the support they can obtain in the future.  From those discussions it seems that business is on the up.”

Feedback received on the night through questionnaires showed that people attending the event were very satisfied or satisfied and all the visitors said they would attend a similar event in the future.  A majority agreed that the new offices at the Ulverston Business Centre, the exhibition stands and the marketing speaker Geoff Ramm were excellent.
