South Lakeland
Play Strategy 2007-2012
The purpose of the Play Strategy is to bring together all
agencies in South Lakeland District who have an interest and
involvement in Children’s Play, to improve play opportunities for
all children in the area.
The intention is that this process will create a long term Play
Partnership that will work together to plan for the future, and in
particular to oversee the implementation of the Partnership’s first
5 year Action Plan arising from the Strategy.
Councillor Peter Thornton who is the Portfolio Holder for
Communities and Well-being commented on the Play Strategy as
follows:
"Play is of enormous benefit not just to children and young
people, but to families and communities as well. Play is
vital to the quality of life of children and young people in South
Lakeland. Providing excellent play opportunities is
consequently an essential part of, in the words of our Corporate
Plan 2007 - 2010, improving the quality of life in South
Lakeland.
South Lakeland is a unique, vibrant district, in which people
are proud to live, work, play and visit. Good play is a key
part of the South Lakeland District Council’s vision because it
helps develop healthy, confident, creative, tolerant and culturally
aware children and young people.
South Lakeland District Council and its partners are committed
to promoting an understanding of the importance of play. This
Play Strategy will help to underpin and embed that wider
understanding and demonstrate the value which we believe play
should have."
