Core Strategy
The Core Strategy Development Plan Document provides the broad
planning strategy for South Lakeland District outside the National
Parks for the period up to 2025. The Core Strategy is a key part of
the Local Development Framework. It draws together strategies of
the Council and other organisations whose activities have
implications for the development and use of land when
adopted. It puts the aspirations of the Sustainable Community
Strategy into effect - seeking to create a sustainable district
that is the best possible place to live, work and visit.
Publication and Submission of the Core
Strategy
On the 16th July 2009 Council approved the publication and
submission of the Core Strategy, which was published for an
eight week period for pre-submission representation in August
2009. On 26th November 2009 the Council submitted the Core
Strategy to the Secretary of State for Public Examination of the
'soundness' of the plan. The submission documents also include: the
Sustainability Appraisal, and statements on who was consulted, how
they were consulted and a summary of the main issues raised
including how they were incorporated into the plan as well as
various background papers. The submission documents are
available to view and download in the current document section
below and are available for inspection during normal opening hours
at South Lakeland House (Kendal); Ulverston Town Hall; and the
libraries at Kendal, Ulverston, Grange over Sands, Milnthorpe,
Kirkby Lonsdale and Arnside. You may purchase a paper copy of any
of the submission documents at a cost of 7p per sheet plus postage
and packaging by contacting the Development Plans Team on 01539
717490.

important changes to the Core Strategy, before concluding his
