Local Development Framework

The Planning and Compulsory
Purchase Act 2004 introduced a new planning system, which requires
South Lakeland District Council to prepare a Local Development
Framework (LDF).
The LDF will replace the existing
South Lakeland Local Plan, which
forms part of the Development Plan for South
Lakeland. The Local Plan and LDF relate
to South Lakeland District outside the Lake District and
Yorkshire Dales National Parks.
The
Lake District and
Yorkshire Dales National Park authorities are preparing
separate Local Development Frameworks in these planning authority
areas.
The Development Plan for South
Lakeland also includes the
Regional Spatial Strategy , published on 30th September
2008, which largely replaces the
Cumbria and
Lake District Joint Structure Plan, adopted by Cumbria County
Council in April 2006. The
North
West Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS) was prepared by
the
North West Regional Assembly
(NWRA) on behalf of the Government.
The Development Plan also
includes the Cumbria Minerals and Waste Local Plan prepared
by Cumbria County Council, which, under the 2004 Act, is
preparing a replacement
Minerals and Waste Local Development Framework.

Register to be consulted on LDF Documents
To enable as many people as possible to have the opportunity
to become involved in the Local Development Framework consultation
process, we have established a consultee database.
Online Consultation
The
Online
Consultation database allows you to view responses to
previous consultations and make online responses (when a
consultation is active). There is no online response facility for
the informal consultation on the Discussion Paper for the
Allocations of Land document as its purpose is mainly to inform and
raise awareness, but there will be an online response facility for
later formal consultation stages.
