Bowness-on-Windermere is located at the lakeshore on Bowness Bay, and the town of Windermere is just a short stroll away.  There is plenty of easy walking around the lakeshore and on the lower slopes of the fells.Lake Windermere - Dave Willis

Windermere is also the name of England's longest lake and you can explore its length and breadth on one of the many sailings offered by Windermere Lake Cruises all year round.   Bowness Bay - Dave WillisThe scenery is breathtaking. Sailing and canoeing are on your doorstep and challenging activities such as gorge scrambling, rock climbing and paragliding are close at hand.
 
South Lakeland District Council owns the bed of Lake Windermere. The Council lets moorings for boats of any type up to 11 metres in length and provides dinghy and tender storage at Ferry Nab as well as winter storage for yachts on trailers.  The Lake Wardens operate between 09.00 and 21.00 daily from Easter to mid-September and 09.00 to 17.00 at other times (the office is closed on Christmas Day). The Lake Wardens also carry out bye-law enforcement for the Lake District National Park Authority and provide an emergency Search and Rescue service as required under the control of the Coastguard Agency. There is a great choice of places to eat and drink and plenty to see and do, from The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction in Bowness to Blackwell, overlooking the lake, is one of the finest Arts and Crafts houses in the country. Windermere is at the heart of an area rich in gourmet pubs and country house hotels offering fine dining second-to-none.
