Kirkland Enhancement Scheme
Thank you for your patience and understanding during the
Kirkland Enhancement Scheme improvement works. The Scheme is
progressing to budget and lighting and footway improvements will be
complete by the end of March.
The programme of works has slipped slightly by one week due to
cold weather conditions and also to allow for delayed delivery of
lighting columns and for United Utilities to connect up the new
streetlights. The enhancement works will now complete on Friday
19th March as planned and United Utilities will complete their work
during the following week and will finish on Friday 26th March.
There will be some disruption when United Utilities revisit
areas on both sides (Wheatsheaf to Gillinggate and Dowker’s Lane to
Peppercorn Lane) to connect and replace the lighting columns. The
other area for new lighting is the Parish Church to Nether Bridge
(west side only) and it is planned that the columns will be erected
as the new paving is being installed.
In a change to our original plan new block paving will be
installed along the west side of Kirkland from Peppercorn Lane to
Pete Bland Sports. The existing block paving was to be kept but now
compared to the new paved areas it looks tired and worn. Whilst the
lane is closed to allow works near the Parish Church and we have
funds available we will install new paving.
Finally the road in Kirkland could operate as two lanes after
Peppercorn Car Park but County Highways have kept the road to one
lane as Highgate is currently operating as one lane due to the
fire. Current traffic management helps ease congestion in Highgate
so Kirkland will remain one lane until the works are complete.
