Regeneration

South
Lakeland's challenge is to address the future, to overcome
weaknesses in its economy, to realise opportunities for economic
and social growth and develop a sustainable economic, social and
environmental balance. The Community Strategy will identify the
actions and the organisations that will deliver this.
Support for regeneration is available from the North West
Development Agency, the Rural Regeneration Company, the European
Union, Natural England (formerly The Countryside Agency), several
Government Departments and the Local Authorities.
Priorities for support include:
- The creation of employment sites and premises
- The restructuring of primary agriculture, including
the development of local, 'value added' produce
- The development of employment and business skills
- Attracting inward investment of new businesses
- Enhancement of rural services, including broadband
- Investment in key service centres
- Strengthening and modernisation of the tourism industry
The Council works with businesses, communities and other
public agencies to bring forward good ideas that enable South
Lakeland to thrive.
We do this by:
- Presenting South Lakeland's case to influence the
development of coun
ty and
regional policies and funding programmes
- Working actively within the One South Lakeland Partnership
Board
- Providing, development and planning advice
to organisations that are developing regeneration
projects
- Creating and entering partnerships with organisations
to develop and deliver projects
