Home Boarding of Dogs
Any person boarding dogs in their own home and operating a business
must be licensed under the Animal Boarding Establishments Act
1963.
There is an application fee
of £65.00 which must be paid at the time an
application is made.
The determination as to whether this activity
needs to be licensed is centred on the consideration whether or not
home boarders are running a business on a regular basis.
This reduced animal boarding fee is made in respect of home
boarding establishments because the number of animals boarded in
each premises is small, the risks at each premises and the
corresponding “inspection burden” for the authority is lower than
for larger premises. However it should be noted that an initial
risk-based inspection of any premises would be undertaken by an
Officer and not by the councils vet.
