The Lake Wardens Service

In partnership with the Lake District National Park Authority Rangers and the police we operate as the Lake Patrol Team.

Our role is to advise and educate Lake users as well as enforcing the bye-laws (follow the link to the LDNPA web-site).

We also provide an emergency rescue service under the co-ordination of the Maritime Coastguard Agency and act as a Cumbrian Ambulance Service First Responder Team, trained in defibrillator and oxygen therapy use.

As owners of the bed of the Lake we are responsible for the administration of moorings and encroachments.  We aim to ensure that the management of the Lake and the adjacent Council-owned land is carried out in a professional and business-like manner and where applicable conforms to the Windermere Management Strategy 2005.

The Public Health Act 1907 requires all commercial hire craft, carrying 12 or fewer passengers to be licenced.  We are the licencing authority for craft operating anywhere within the South Lakeland area.  Follow the links to Pleasure Boats and Boatmans Licence.

We provide RYA powerboat training, up to safety boat standard, for other agencies including Cumbria Constabulary, Cumbria Fire Service, the Radio Communications Agency, the RSPCA and the National Trust.
